I'm sure, unless you've been living under a rock or a creepy cabin in the woods, that you've listened to a podcast on your phone and seen a video podcast on YouTube.

Video Marketing is becoming more and more powerful with each passing day.


So how do you jump in the game? How do you take your business into 2024 and beyond?

Here's the thing, while you've been busy running your business the online world has changed. I see this all the time... a business owner, and especially the solo-preneur, has not had the time to stay up to date with the latest in online tech or marketing.

While your child can make a TikTok or Instagram Reel in a matter of minutes you might be still wonder what hashtags to use for a photo.


(Hint - only use 10-12 hashtags with less than 75K views)


And as these kids get older and join the professional workforce your business is going to be left behind like Kmart and Sears.


You have to stay up-to-date to be relevant online. It's a must!


So now that we established that video is important lets get into how important and why it is so important.


  • How important is video? Glad you asked!


As you see from Facebook and Instagram Ads, almost ALL major advertisers are using video. Why? Because video works when done correctly. If you watch just a few of these video ads you see some common clues - quick cuts, basic videography (meaning you could use your phone), a personable spokesperson, and most important, storytelling.


These combined bring the person scrolling into the ad and get them to stop long enough to maybe be interested. When that happens the platforms record this action and soon you get another ad and so on. The power of this is proven everyday by some of the best marketers in the world. 


Being able to market and re-market using video creates familiarity with the advertiser and leads to better conversions and sales. The thing is you can have this power too using the same video techniques described above.


  • Why is video so important?


Well, I kinda answered that in bullet point 1 but here is a more detailed answer to this question. Video is so important because it works, it makes you more familiar with the product, service, owner, etc. and it allows you to tell a story to hook the viewer. As the next generation grows up and enters the consumer world they will be so familiar with video that not having video might be weird.


Now, I'm of the opinion that you Zig when others Zag but I'll bet video is here to stay and the Zig/Zag will be within the video-realm, not video or no video. So jumping on board now is not too late. In fact now is a great time to jump into video because we marketers have now seen what works and what doesn't. We know that a business can use this type of video format to promote and sell and the results of other businesses like it show it works. We don't have to reinvent the wheel. 


Let's talk briefly about the different kinds of video you can use for your business.


Video Marketing: this is what we talked about above. It includes short form online video advertising and long form video sales letters. Each has its pros and cons depending on your sales goals.


Video Podcasting: is filming your podcast and using it to post to your website, Youtube, and social media. Some of this is video marketing and I won't get into that now. I'm happy to talk with you about these differences. But Video Podcasting is such a useful tool to gain attention organically and become an authority in your field.


Picture this:

You are a Realtor/Broker who is "working your territory". You know the area so well that people often ask you for restaurant or other recommendations. How about asking that restaurant owner or manager if they would get on a video podcast with you at the restaurant explain how they started, their favorite dishes, and maybe a few fun or funny stories form over the years. A good 10-20 minute talk is perfect to show off your personality and the business you are featuring. It's a Win/Win.


Then you edit this video in it's long form and post it to your YouTube. Then edit the video into small bites and post to your social media and send to the restaurant to post to their social media.


And if you really want to up your online game you can run Facebook Ads with one or two of those small bites sending the people to a landing page of your own to fill out their information.


What's that you say??? No one will fill out their info from an online ad?


Ok, here's how we solve that issue... You give away the recipe to a popular meal the restaurant makes. Or you give away a BOGO meal to that restaurant, or you give away a coupon for a free dessert, drink, napkin, whatever, that would be popular at that restaurant. Use your imagination but make sure it's a bigger item than a napkin.
